Equipment

The container continuously records its location and status, including climate conditions inside and outside the container (humidity and temperature), the closing or opening of the container, vibrations, slope, position, sound and air pollution. Container 42 also houses a variety of cameras that take time-lapse images or start recording during specific events (e.g. when the container is opened). And finally, Container 42 also carries a mini Tesla (the Tesla 42) equipped with sensors to measure whether it moves inside Container 42 during the journey, and if so, why.

Smart lock

Container 42 is fitted with an advanced high-end SBS lock. This container lock makes it easy to check when, where and by who the container has been opened. The lock also makes it possible to personalise or block access to the container. With the help of geofencing, it is even possible to open the lock only at set locations (such as at customs).

Powered by the sun

Container 42 is the first container in the world with a lowered roof fitted with solar panels to be approved and certified by Lloyd’s for inclusion in its Register. This means that Container 42 can be used to transport cargo anywhere in the world – just like a regular fully certified unit. We intend Container 42’s overall journey to be energy neutral – which is why we’ve fitted the unit with solar panels, batteries and energy-efficient sensors.

Intelligent sensors

Besides all technical devices, there is no cargo in Container 42. Except, a Tesla scale model (the Tesla 42), which is fitted with sensors that measure whether the vehicle moves around inside Container 42 during transport; and if so, why.
